A New Years Give Away!

Have you heard of the Curiosity Shoppe in San Fran?  No?  Well it is this great small shop full of eclectic things run by a husband and wife team.  "A shared obsession with the gorgeous and the unique inspired Lauren Smith and Derek Fagerstrom to open The Curiosity Shoppe in San Francisco's Mission District. Crammed with the quirky and clever, the unusual and nostalgic, it's a haven for anyone looking to add a little surprise and delight to their home." From the Target Website

Well back in the early fall they teamed up with Target as part of The Shops at Target, where they showcase a few small businesses that come up with a line of goods specifically for the bullseye.  I may have went a bit crazy when their stuff came out because well I follow their blog, instagram and twitter and have been to their shop in San Fran and loved it all!

In my craziness I bought a few of their wooden United States shaped cutting boards to turn into holiday gifts of a different circumstance, aka not to be used as a cutting board, instead to be used as pretty wall art.  I also went a bit crazy with their tea towels that I turned into throw pillows for myself.  All of the cutting boards that were given as gifts are on the wall their new homes but I have one left and I'm giving it away to one lucky follower as a New Years Gift.

I turned the US cutting board into a chalk board that you can write your  travel bucket list on, grocery list or anything else really... all you need to do is become a follower of this blog and leave a comment on this post of what your favorite US City is. Extra entries for liking us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter .  That's it super duper easy! The contest will end on Jan. 11th when a winner will be drawn and notified.

But really you should also check out the Curiosity Shoppe because they rock :  Shoppe  Blog   Twitter

Junk Shop Update

While I've been on vacation I've been taking some time to go through some inventory and get it loaded in the shop and ready to go off to a new home!  Here's a few of the goodies:

Better Homes and Gardens Garden Book 1954 vol. 2 First Printing. Mom has her's displayed with her vintage lawn sprinklers, and I know that she has referenced it from time to time.

1950s Lustro Ware Plastic Yellow Flour Canister   Great for storing anything from dog treats to buttons to even flour for your baking.  This would also make a great planter.  The letters are a bit faded but if you go over with a white sharpie they will look brand new.

Vintage Polaroid Big Swinger Camera   Vintage camera from the 1960s pretty sure that it's still loaded with some of its original film, a surprise for it's new owner.

There's a lot more to come everyone!  Hope you all had a great Holiday!

It maybe too early to talk 2013 you know if the Mayans are right and all but it's the thought of January that is getting me through these December days. The odd number years have been good to me let's go 2013 a year of tremendous personal change! How about you what are looking forward to in 2013?

Sew I've Been Busy

Between Handmade for the Holidays and HoneyCraft Market on Black Friday I had a total inventory of six handbags as of Nov. 29.  Me and my little hands have been sewing up a storm to try and get ready for a small open house on Dec. 4 and my final show of 2012 on Dec. 15.  Then to top it off Michelle asked for more handbags for Dainty Daisies!  I'm so overwhelmed but in such a good way, my heart is so glad that each of these one of a kind gems is finding a new home with someone that loves them and understands and appreciates  all the hard work that goes into producing a quality handmade item.

This new batch of handbags has a 2 inch longer straps as I was getting quite a few comments about how customers wished the straps were just a bit longer.  So here's hoping those 2 inches makes all the difference!

If you are interested in one of these handbags, just an FYI that come January I will be raising the price a few dollars as the price of my interfacing that I use keeps going up every time I go to the store.  Until Dec. 31st the small handbags will remain at $25.00 but come January they will be increased to $30.00 and the Large Bags will be increased to $35.00 in the Shop.

Happy Thanksgiving & A Sweet Deal

Happy Thanksgiving all of my US readers and Happy Nov. 22 to the rest of the universe!  This has been quite the year for me, when looking back at where I was last Thanksgiving to where I am today, but I have so much to be thankful for today, like my AH-mazing support system that has been working overtime the past couple months. I am thankful for being able to do a job that I love and am super passionate about as a part time gig right now but see it going so much further.  I am thankful for my family that helps and supports me in this little side business for now but is up to the challenge of helping me make it so much bigger and I am grateful for all of you, blog readers, twitter followers, facebook friends and lurkers for supporting my little endeavors in your own way.

So as a Thank You on this day of Thanks from today through Cyber Monday, November 26 there will be FREE DOMESTIC SHIPPING in both stores as well as $12.00 discounted shipping to Canada!! No Coupon Code is required it's already set up in the listing.   I wanted to start the free shipping today because some people maybe *cough* bored *cough* at their family get together and checking out the online happenings while pretending to be interested in family affairs.  You know those people are out there!

Please also keep in mind that Saturday, Nov. 24 is also Small Business Saturday.  While those big chain stores can offer amazing deals this time of year for gifts for loved ones, please keep small businesses in mind.  You can read the article I wrote about some of my favorite small businesses HERE from my old blog. After all the US was built by entrepreneurship, so get out there to your local downtown area, local craft fair,  someones own shop domain, or on Etsy.  Those of us trying to make our small business dreams come true will be forever grateful for your purchase, large or small.

Handmade for the Holidays Wrap Up

First off Michelle, from Dainty Daisies rocks my socks off!  She is an amazing young woman and is super inspiring to be around!  She is the force behind Handmade for the Holidays a great show filled with lots of super talented ladies and even a few gents!  Seriously if you are a cheesehead you need to get yourself to Oshkosh next November and shop this show!

For those of you that have read where you can find the Jadarie purses in person you know that they are available at Dainty Daisies in Appleton, and man did purses sell like hot cakes at the show!  My sewing machine and I are having a very intimate relationship at this time as my inventory was depleted down to 13!  I got to meet some very creative ladies and some purses found lots of loving new homes.  Here are some pictures of my booth and from the set up of the show.

Even Santa was there to support the Handmade Movement.  Overall it was a great show, I will have to write a separate post just for the items that I purchased, but since most of them are Christmas gifts so I will wait and do a huge independent artist post after the gifts are given as this year I am trying to support artists and local businesses with my gift giving needs.

Thanks again to everyone that came out and supported Handmade businesses!

Volo Antique Mall & Classic Car Museum

The Volo auto museum is a classic car lovers paradise with more then 250 collector cars on display and for sale.  The museum is home to a bunch of cars from different movies, such as the Batmobile, Christine, the Back to the Future Car , the General Lee and the car from Knight Rider.  The whole listing of the Hollywood cars that are at Volo can be found HERE

The cars are a great time but what I really tag along for is I know that after me and the Mr. are done looking at the cars I get to go explore 3 different antique malls!  The jam packed antique malls are housed in three connected buildings and have a zillion or so things for sale going from Primitives to the 1970's.  Each of the three malls has there own special era, per say, Mall 1 is mostly Primitives, Mall 2 is my era mostly Mid-Century and Mall 3 is 70's and later.

The most exciting news is that now you can find our junk in person at Volo in Mall #2 in case # 663!!

In all seriousness Volo is a great destination for a day trip, because between the cars and the antiques you are going to be there all day!  The cars are always interesting to go through and the antique malls are always stocked with great reasonably priced things, Volo is an hour drive from Chicago and about the same from the Milwaukee area.

Volo's Official website can be found by clicking HERE

New York East Coast State of Mind

Oh New York & New Jersey you hold a special place in my heart.  When I was 21 I took off to you Manhattan from small town Wisconsin for a summer long internship. You and your make it or break it attitude changed me and molded me into the person that I am today.  For that opportunity to share those three months with you I am so very thankful.

It hurts my heart to see photos on the news of Lower Manhattan, Staten Island and New Jersey look like a war zone.  Being the person that I am it is very hard for me to sit here and not have bought a plane ticket, grab the Staten Island Ferry and go with garbage bags and work gloves and help do something, anything.

Alas, this is the beginning of the busiest time of year at the day job and I just can’t and that kills my New York area loving heart!  So instead I have decided that throughout the rest of November I am going to donate $5 from every sale in both shops to the Red Cross Relief efforts.  I will be donating all the funds to their “Disaster Relief” initiative for Hurricane Sandy victims. More information on that can be found HERE

This is a great way to begin your Holiday shopping while helping people that so desperately need supplies and shelter during this month of Thankfulness.   If you choose to buy something from either shops THANK YOU, if you would rather donate on your own here is a link to an MSNBC article that is a great resource of donation information.

Farm Girl Art and Antiques

Once upon a time my oldest friend stopped into this cute shop in downtown Milwaukee and got the vintage itch as I like to call it.  She bought an antique farm table and then sawed it in half for her entry way.  She's crazy like that.  Well being the great friend that she is, she thought hmmm this is a store Jade would like.  So the next time I went up to visit her sure as we had margaritas for lunch, she took me to her new found gem of a store.

This store is Farm Girl Art & Antiques on 5th Street in downtown Milwaukee.  Seriously this store is AH-mazing.  The tin ceiling the great vintage... ugh why are you still reading and not en route?

My friend took me the next time I went up to visit and as usual I was carrying a Jadarie handbag and Lisa the owner asked about it and next thing you know Jadarie Handbags are in stock!  So when you go to Farm Girl tell Lisa that Jade sent you, and buy a handbag.

The End

On November

November how is it even here already?!  November has been a historically bad month for me, ok maybe not so much bad, more like "life changing" a lot of life changing things have happened to me in the month of November.  I thought by saying one thing that I'm grateful for each day (or every couple days let's be honest here) will help me appreciate November more then fear it.

Today I am Thankful For:

The opportunity to have sat on the floor for a few hours last night and catch up with a very important person to me. I honestly didn't want the night to end but with every evening the dawn must always come, so I'm thankful for what the evening was.

This weekend I will be going through some inventory and heading up to load up my booth at Volo and dropping some purses at a new brick and mortar store in Milwaukee!  More to come on both of those places next week.

What are you thankful for today?

All Night Flea Market

Over the weekend I attended an all night flea market, well it really only went until midnight but who's counting.  For the full review on Vintage Guide to Chicago Click HERE.  It was a fun time but not too much vintage to be found, it was mostly new merch and crafty stuff, but the costumes, chocolate covered bacon and thrill of treasure hunting in the dark made it fun.

Have you been to an all night flea market?

I know it may still be October but I have been doing some "housekeeping" and set the deadlines for both shops order by dates to guarantee arrival for the Holidays.

The International Order for the Holidays Deadline is December 11 and the Domestic Order  for the Holidays Deadline is December 16.

Bridge to Self-Employment

Photo of Old Railroad Bridge on one of my adventures

Every evening, let me rephrase that almost every evening, the pooch and I walk under a bridge and  over a bridge on our stroll around the duck pond.  As I was walking over the bridge last night, I realized that I am totally standing on a bridge right now, I am clearly in-between where I have been and where I will go next.

I felt like my feet were on solid ground before and that's the side of the bridge I stepped onto.  Right now though I am standing on the bridge, above the water and  afraid  to take the steps to get to the other side because I can't see the other side clearly.  I don't know if there will be solid ground there to support my feet when I arrive.

Then the panic sets in, the fear of failure. I am trying so hard to soak in all that I am experiencing and learning of myself in this crossing, instead of letting the turmoil take over, but it's hard.  Transition is hard, the steps are heavy.   But the thing about bridges is that they are meant to lead you someplace not meant for you to settle, thrive and live on.  I'm looking forward to my solid ground on the other side, it will be scary and hard but it hopefully it will turn out to  be one of the bravest things I do.

Cottage Industries

When I first got my assignment for the weekend from Vintage Guide to Chicago to attend to the Grayslake Antique and Collectible show the first person I texted to see if she wanted to go with me was my adopted Mom down here, I don't think she even hesitated, and said Yes, she is after all my adopted mom and has the same interests as me.  We were perusing the booths and came across Cottage Industries, my adopted Mom actually saw her first because in her mind antiques and plants are tied for her most favorite things, oh and the White Sox, I better not forget the White Sox.

(Look at her rocking a Jadarie Handbag! She loves me)

Cottage Industries mixes both of these together.  Carla is the artist behind these amazing creations, she takes these great vintage pieces, junk to some people, uses them as a container and fills them with the most beautiful arrangements of different types of plants to make them truly one of a kind pieces.   My adopted Mom took home the filter filled with the wonderful plants spilling out of it.

Carla can be found at the Grayslake Antique and Collectible shows on the second Saturday of the Month or if you are seriously interested I have her phone number, she sadly does not have an internet address to see her great pieces.

Carla is also had a fantastic aesthetically pleasing display.  Her booth was like walking into a mini garden shop and antique shop a great mix.

Talented isn't she?  If you are interested in something her card says will help you choose the proper elements just for you.  Again if you would like Carla's contact info please shoot me an email.

Gray Day at Grayslake

This weeks assignment for the Vintage Guide to Chicago was to visit the Grayslake Antique and Collectibles 2nd weekend of the month market. I texted my adopted Illinois Mom and we headed out on a dreary gray day out to Grayslake. Click HERE to read my full review of the market.  I also stumbled upon an amazing artist while there that deserves her own post coming later this week.  For now I will leave you with a few pictures of the amazing displays from the market and some of my treasure from the day.

My treasure from the day, included a dualflex camera, an Operation Game with all of the pieces, a Pepsi cooler, light up Santa, Fisher Price Little People jeep, Vintage Pennants, and a great vintage sign for my Office above my packaging supplies.

Two Collies & A Mutt

On one of my estate clean out days I came across a jackpot of awesome condition Golden Books from the 60's, these were like 3rd and 4th editions!  In the pile was a Lassie book, that looked as if it had never been read.  When I saw it I immediately thought of Marquie and her blog Two Collies and A Mutt because one of her collies names is Lassie.

Marquie recently lost her dog Ella suddenly and I thought this might cheer her up, so on a whim I contacted her and asked if she was into vintage books or Lassie collectibles and she said that she was.  So I sent this book off to her and I think she is throughly enjoying it judging by the pictures in THIS blog post.  Thank You Marquie for the awesome pics of the collies with the book.  I think is my favorite part of my job, finding things that mean so much to other people and knowing they have found a good home.

If you have any pictures of the items you have bought from Junk in da Trunk Girls or Jadarie Handmade I'd love to see them! And be sure to check out Lassie and Petal's adventures over HERE!

The Past Few Weeks in Instagrams

Hey Big News I'm on instagram, and I'm addicted to it! My user name is junkindatrnkgrl if you want to follow along.  These are a few photos from my feed and some that didn't make it.  The past few weeks I have been picking up a storm, trying to rebuild my inventory after I sold 80% of it at the Vintage Bazaar at the beginning of September, and also out on assignment for Vintage Guide Chicago.   My pooch and I have been taking longer on our nightly walks by the duck pond trying to savor the weather before the snow starts to fly.   I found these Rogers and Matthews jerseys at the thrift a couple weeks ago and turned them around into purses like a mad woman.  Been trying to spend as much time with the kiddos in my life, that day we went to the Children's Museum and pretended we were mechanics.  Found some great golden books in an estate clean out and sent the Lassie one off to my  blog friend that has a Collie by the same name.

Hope you have a great weekend, I will be up in McHenry County selling at two different craft shows, if you are in the area come out and say Hello!

Currently A New Month

It's 3 days into October, how did October get here already?!  This is my favorite month of the year and it has been notoriously good to me in the past, so I'm crossing my fingers that it holds the same bounty this year.  Here are some the things I'm currently doing....

Location: home sweet home in my tiny apartment, with my 45 pound lap dog snoozing on my lap.
Watching:  gossip girl Season 5, and completely relating to all of it!

Eating:  nachos

Drinking: gold peak iced tea lemonade, seriously addicted to this stuff.

Wanting: things that I just can not have right now.

Needing: more patience right now in my life than I ever had before.  There are things that need to take their own sweet time right now and I need to work on handling that.

Loving:  the colors of the trees and the feel of fall.

Creating: lots of new handbags and a business plan.

Thinking:  that maybe it's a good time for a trip.

Wondering: if I am making / have made the right decisions about so many important things and if they will eventually turn out how I am hoping.  Deep breath.
I am excited and a bit nervous for all the new month holds.  How about you what are you currently up too?

Vintage Guide to Chicago

I have recently become a contributor to the Vintage Guide to Chicago blog.  I get to go to area flea markets and review them, like that was a hard decision to make!  I recently wrote about Wolf's Flea Market at the All State Arena in Rosemont.  This is seriously one of my favorite area flea markets, mostly because it doesn't take an hour or more for me to get too it, and for the most part the Western side of the parking lot is vintage and antiques and the Eastern part is all of the things that "just fell off the truck".  So when I am crunched for time I know I can do most of the vintage side in an hour and completely skip the other side of the market, and jumbo jets flying over your head every few minutes doesn't suck either.

I have found a lot of gems there,  but my most favorite find there to date though would be one Sunday, last summer a huge storm was rolling in and we had come across a guy that was selling old bikes and he gave us a great deal on a men's and women's bike because he didn't want to pack them up. He went on to tell us he actually got them together at an estate sale, so of course we couldn't split them up, and as we were wheeling them out we were approached by another guy that said he had an old bike like the ones we were pushing that he was looking to get rid of, so that day not one but three bikes came home with me!

About Junkn Jadarie

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to Junkn Jadarie! Junkn Jadarie is the first names of each of the etsy shops I run.  I am a modern day treasure hunter that runs Junk in da Trunk Girls with the help of my family of pickers.  I also run Jadarie Handmade where I turn vintage fabrics I find on my treasure hunts and sports jerseys into one of a kind handbags. Also on Jadarie I upcycle other things I find on treasure hunts into something totally different then it's intended use.

Alot has personally happened to me in the last couple months that has put my businesses a bit on the back burner, but I am here now with a new name, a new business plan and the ambition to make my dreams come true!  I have so many exciting things to share with all of you and can't wait to start.

My goal for this blog is to give you a peek into my life, my path to becoming a soley independent employed person, a few DIYs, pictures of my treasure hunts, updates on my handmade business and craft show rendevous',  and updates of my puppy children.

Hope you are going to enjoy the ride!
