All Night Flea Market

Over the weekend I attended an all night flea market, well it really only went until midnight but who's counting.  For the full review on Vintage Guide to Chicago Click HERE.  It was a fun time but not too much vintage to be found, it was mostly new merch and crafty stuff, but the costumes, chocolate covered bacon and thrill of treasure hunting in the dark made it fun.

Have you been to an all night flea market?

Deadlines Deadlines Deadlines

I know it may still be October but I have been doing some "housekeeping" and set the deadlines for both shops order by dates to guarantee arrival for the Holidays.

The Custom Order Deadline for anything Handmade is Saturday, December 1.  If you are thinking that a child's old jersey would make a great handbag for that special someone, or a Tangled Princess print blanket with crochet edging is the perfect gift for the little princess in your life please let me know before December 1, either through a convo at Jadarie or through an email.

The International Order for the Holidays Deadline is December 11 and the Domestic Order  for the Holidays Deadline is December 16.

I will also be away from the shops from  Dec. 21- Dec. 31 the shops however will remain open but orders will not ship out until January 3rd.  Ok I think that's all the housekeeping business that I have. Oh and a tiny hint there will be FREE DOMESTIC SHIPPING and DISCOUNTED INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING in both shops from November 22 until November 26.

Bridge to Self-Employment

Photo of Old Railroad Bridge on one of my adventures

Every evening, let me rephrase that almost every evening, the pooch and I walk under a bridge and  over a bridge on our stroll around the duck pond.  As I was walking over the bridge last night, I realized that I am totally standing on a bridge right now, I am clearly in-between where I have been and where I will go next.

I felt like my feet were on solid ground before and that's the side of the bridge I stepped onto.  Right now though I am standing on the bridge, above the water and  afraid  to take the steps to get to the other side because I can't see the other side clearly.  I don't know if there will be solid ground there to support my feet when I arrive.

Then the panic sets in, the fear of failure. I am trying so hard to soak in all that I am experiencing and learning of myself in this crossing, instead of letting the turmoil take over, but it's hard.  Transition is hard, the steps are heavy.   But the thing about bridges is that they are meant to lead you someplace not meant for you to settle, thrive and live on.  I'm looking forward to my solid ground on the other side, it will be scary and hard but it hopefully it will turn out to  be one of the bravest things I do.

Cottage Industries

When I first got my assignment for the weekend from Vintage Guide to Chicago to attend to the Grayslake Antique and Collectible show the first person I texted to see if she wanted to go with me was my adopted Mom down here, I don't think she even hesitated, and said Yes, she is after all my adopted mom and has the same interests as me.  We were perusing the booths and came across Cottage Industries, my adopted Mom actually saw her first because in her mind antiques and plants are tied for her most favorite things, oh and the White Sox, I better not forget the White Sox.

(Look at her rocking a Jadarie Handbag! She loves me)

Cottage Industries mixes both of these together.  Carla is the artist behind these amazing creations, she takes these great vintage pieces, junk to some people, uses them as a container and fills them with the most beautiful arrangements of different types of plants to make them truly one of a kind pieces.   My adopted Mom took home the filter filled with the wonderful plants spilling out of it.

Carla can be found at the Grayslake Antique and Collectible shows on the second Saturday of the Month or if you are seriously interested I have her phone number, she sadly does not have an internet address to see her great pieces.

Carla is also had a fantastic aesthetically pleasing display.  Her booth was like walking into a mini garden shop and antique shop a great mix.

Talented isn't she?  If you are interested in something her card says will help you choose the proper elements just for you.  Again if you would like Carla's contact info please shoot me an email.

Gray Day at Grayslake

This weeks assignment for the Vintage Guide to Chicago was to visit the Grayslake Antique and Collectibles 2nd weekend of the month market. I texted my adopted Illinois Mom and we headed out on a dreary gray day out to Grayslake. Click HERE to read my full review of the market.  I also stumbled upon an amazing artist while there that deserves her own post coming later this week.  For now I will leave you with a few pictures of the amazing displays from the market and some of my treasure from the day.

My treasure from the day, included a dualflex camera, an Operation Game with all of the pieces, a Pepsi cooler, light up Santa, Fisher Price Little People jeep, Vintage Pennants, and a great vintage sign for my Office above my packaging supplies.

Two Collies & A Mutt

On one of my estate clean out days I came across a jackpot of awesome condition Golden Books from the 60's, these were like 3rd and 4th editions!  In the pile was a Lassie book, that looked as if it had never been read.  When I saw it I immediately thought of Marquie and her blog Two Collies and A Mutt because one of her collies names is Lassie.

Marquie recently lost her dog Ella suddenly and I thought this might cheer her up, so on a whim I contacted her and asked if she was into vintage books or Lassie collectibles and she said that she was.  So I sent this book off to her and I think she is throughly enjoying it judging by the pictures in THIS blog post.  Thank You Marquie for the awesome pics of the collies with the book.  I think is my favorite part of my job, finding things that mean so much to other people and knowing they have found a good home.

If you have any pictures of the items you have bought from Junk in da Trunk Girls or Jadarie Handmade I'd love to see them! And be sure to check out Lassie and Petal's adventures over HERE!

The Past Few Weeks in Instagrams

Hey Big News I'm on instagram, and I'm addicted to it! My user name is junkindatrnkgrl if you want to follow along.  These are a few photos from my feed and some that didn't make it.  The past few weeks I have been picking up a storm, trying to rebuild my inventory after I sold 80% of it at the Vintage Bazaar at the beginning of September, and also out on assignment for Vintage Guide Chicago.   My pooch and I have been taking longer on our nightly walks by the duck pond trying to savor the weather before the snow starts to fly.   I found these Rogers and Matthews jerseys at the thrift a couple weeks ago and turned them around into purses like a mad woman.  Been trying to spend as much time with the kiddos in my life, that day we went to the Children's Museum and pretended we were mechanics.  Found some great golden books in an estate clean out and sent the Lassie one off to my  blog friend that has a Collie by the same name.

Hope you have a great weekend, I will be up in McHenry County selling at two different craft shows, if you are in the area come out and say Hello!

Currently A New Month

It's 3 days into October, how did October get here already?!  This is my favorite month of the year and it has been notoriously good to me in the past, so I'm crossing my fingers that it holds the same bounty this year.  Here are some the things I'm currently doing....

Location: home sweet home in my tiny apartment, with my 45 pound lap dog snoozing on my lap.
Watching:  gossip girl Season 5, and completely relating to all of it!

Eating:  nachos

Drinking: gold peak iced tea lemonade, seriously addicted to this stuff.

Wanting: things that I just can not have right now.

Needing: more patience right now in my life than I ever had before.  There are things that need to take their own sweet time right now and I need to work on handling that.

Loving:  the colors of the trees and the feel of fall.

Creating: lots of new handbags and a business plan.

Thinking:  that maybe it's a good time for a trip.

Wondering: if I am making / have made the right decisions about so many important things and if they will eventually turn out how I am hoping.  Deep breath.
I am excited and a bit nervous for all the new month holds.  How about you what are you currently up too?

Vintage Guide to Chicago

I have recently become a contributor to the Vintage Guide to Chicago blog.  I get to go to area flea markets and review them, like that was a hard decision to make!  I recently wrote about Wolf's Flea Market at the All State Arena in Rosemont.  This is seriously one of my favorite area flea markets, mostly because it doesn't take an hour or more for me to get too it, and for the most part the Western side of the parking lot is vintage and antiques and the Eastern part is all of the things that "just fell off the truck".  So when I am crunched for time I know I can do most of the vintage side in an hour and completely skip the other side of the market, and jumbo jets flying over your head every few minutes doesn't suck either.

I have found a lot of gems there,  but my most favorite find there to date though would be one Sunday, last summer a huge storm was rolling in and we had come across a guy that was selling old bikes and he gave us a great deal on a men's and women's bike because he didn't want to pack them up. He went on to tell us he actually got them together at an estate sale, so of course we couldn't split them up, and as we were wheeling them out we were approached by another guy that said he had an old bike like the ones we were pushing that he was looking to get rid of, so that day not one but three bikes came home with me!
