A Junk Update

I had been going through a box of neglected inventory that was sitting in a corner of my apartment and came across all of these goodies.  This picture is full of so many shabby chic goodies all of which have been added to the Junk Shop .   On top of these goodies I found this gem a long time ago and realized when I was going through my warehouse that I hadn't listed it yet.

This great metal Chemistry Lab Box made by skill.  I was completely drawn to the great mid-century graphics and thought this has the potential to be something super amazing.  I thought it would be cute hanging in a bathroom as a smallish medicine cabinet or first aid type kit.   It's in such great condition that I hope someone takes it home soon before I decide that I need to keep it... you've been warned.

Hope that you are enjoying all the new goodies in both shops, it's on my to do list to start organizing the warehouse so I'm sure I will have so many more goodies coming your way.

A Handmade Shop Update

I've been pretty busy with an assembly line set up in my apartment of purse putting togethering.  That's right I just made up those words purse putting togethering, well because I can.  Anywho, my handbag stock was a bit depleted after the holidays, which I'm not complaining about AT ALL! So I've been busy at it and have a few new gems loaded up into the Handmade Shop .  But for all of you loyal readers I'll give you a peak on here of all the goodies that have gotten loaded.  Also a reminder, that my costs for making these has gone up therefore the price to carry one of my one of a kind works of art has also gone up, booo interfacing price jack up!
The bag at the top of this post is one of my most favorite patterns to date, I think it would be the perfect bag to carry this spring.  It's a beige background with what looks like to me an olive branch design.  This little cutie can be found HERE.  I had enough fabric from this amazing set of curtains to get a large bag out of it as well which can be found HERE

This little gray goodie can be used now or for the upcoming spring.  It's such a neutral purse that it can stay around for seasons to come.

This little tangerine orange gem is a new design I had been tinkering with, I have been making cross body bags out of the recycled jerseys' and made myself one out of this amazing curtain fabric I had laying around and lots of customers were asking for cross body so I listened and here's the first one fresh off the sewing machine!  I added an outside pocket for easy quick access to the things you need, aka your phone.

All the handbags can be found in the shop, and special thanks to my awesome little model who took the time out of her day off school to help me out with these purses.

The End of an Era & the Beginning of the Rest of My Life

I came across this quote from Vanessa's twitter feed and I feel like it really sums up my life at this point lately " Let the person you used to be die, before they kill you."

January 10th was my last day at the full time job, it was a bittersweet day, I realized just how many lives I had touched by the amount of cards, hugs and tears that were shed.  After realizing that it really made all the years of putting my heart and soul on the line worth it.  I had made a difference, I had made the last years of peoples lives good, happy, livable.  They however taught me that it was now time for me to do something for myself, to make myself happy, to put myself first,  because those people, the people who cared and paid attention knew that things had changed me.

Self employed life has been so busy that I have neglected this space lately,  I have been busy sorting through some inventory that has been neglectfully sitting in a corner of my apartment, writing out my thoughts on persuing Junk in da Trunk Girls vintage rentals, and attempting to figure out how to get my name out there to start running estate type sales, not just by word of mouth.

So here we go everyone, if I had an adult beverage I'd say let's raise them up and toast to a new beginning & please sit shot gun with me as I journey on!

Honest to Blog I Have Big News

So in other news I made the decision to leave my full time day job.  That's right I chose to walk away from the security and known of a 9-5 Monday-Friday day job, to pursue this self-employed thing and see what I can make of it. And honestly part of me is scared shitless!

Let's be honest here, in this economy it is most likely not advisable to quit a sure thing and attempt to become your own boss.  However, I had been dealing with so many issues at my day job for such a long time that it had come to a point where I had been feeling defeated, burnt out and broken down by so many of the things that were happening day in and day out that I just didn't feel like me anymore.

There are notebooks full of ideas that I wasn't having any time to do, big dreams of someday having my own brick and mortar to feeling like there is enough potential with the ideas that I have to take off, if I only had the time and positive energy to make them happen.

I also have an overwhelming feeling of if I don't try this now, that someday when I'm 80 and sitting on my front porch swing, crocheting with a sleeping dog at my feet that I will say either to myself or whomever is sitting next to me "What if I would have tried to have my own business when I was 31, why didn't I do that when I had the opportunity, if I had where would I be right now"  and the last thing I want out of my life is to be sitting there and asking myself "What ifs" and regretting the opportunities that I didn't take. I fully believe that everything happens for a reason, and even as scared as I am about the unknown I am excited to see how much I am capable of achieving.
